TROLLING, What depth?

I am new to trolling and was wondering what is the best depth to troll for pike & Zander using a downrigger???
What wobblers work best and at what speed??

Does the noise of the outboard motor make any difference aswell. Would it be better to row. I have an Evinrude 9.9hp and it is quite noisey. Would this affect the fishing in shallow water??

Chris get your self a good quality fish finder first an for most, you can see were the fish are, maybe below or above or in the thermocline, but also try flat line trolling with no down rigger, big pike are often taken in open deep water as well as zander, in the right conditions they can can be found surspened over deep water!! if the motor is noisy try side planers, they take the lures out to the side of the boat, great for trolling shallows to.

William, i have one. A humminbird 200DX but i dont get out that often in the boat (too much bloody carp fishing).
So the big pike are out in the deep open water??

What the F*** is a thermocline, i dont want to go handgliding (sorry english humour)

No not as a rule, they should be deep most of the time during the summer, but can be found surspened higher up in the right conditions, as with all fishing there are so many factors at stake its hard to say what will work for sure!!

Its like when your in the bath!! with the taps at the front yea, an you run the hot tap, its cold at the back, hot at the front, you sit in the middle!! its the same with the fish!!
