  • Trolling Crescent 465 with Honda BF30

    Hi,
I'm new in this forum and I hope somebody can help me with my unclear situation.
My name is Andre coming from Germany and like trolling over all on big lakes in Värmland, for pikes and trouts.

I bought me CRESCENT 465 with a HONDA Bf30 HP.
I'm trolling just simply with 2 rods, no downrigger and so on...

HAS SOMEBODY EXPERIENCE WITH DRIVING SUCH A BOAT WITH A 4-STROKE 30hp (maybe Honda bf30)?

I dont know really how slow is the slowiest speed possible with this motor.
Maybe its to quick for my need?
I need slowiest speed 2kn, if more slow is possible than maybe better, cause it wind is coming from behind or so.

HOW SLOW it's possible with this boat and motor?
Is it neccessary to slow more down than motor is running in lowest rpm?
    How you are solving this?

    THANKS

    Andre

    You could use these "Drivankare".

this means motor is to fast for trolling and slow down is necessary...?

I was once on a trolling boat on vänern where a guy did use 50hp 4-stroke and down speed was 1,6kn.

So I was thinking the 30hp pushs not faster in down speed...

what are you using for boats and motors with which down-speed?

Was the 50hp on a similar boat as the Crescent 465?

But i don't think it will be a problem with a 30hp. A got a 30hp 2-stroke Yamaha -86 on my Vator 14r ( about 250-200kg ) and slowest speed is about 1.5kn. A newer 30 hp4-stroke would probably be more fine tuned and smother during these speeds. Is there any +/-rpm tuning on the BF30?

Otherwise , just use a "drivankare" as suggested

A lot of people here could help you out. But maybe they are not that comfortable with writing in english. I am afraid i cant help you other than asking you if you know what kind of propeller, or screw, is mounted on the engine. As I understand you can change them to propps that are more suitable for slower speeds.

thanks a lot for nice responds...

the honda is builded in 2002 and has no adjustable trolling rpm.
            Installed is a prop 9,85 x 12, boat makes around 5700rpm 27kn.
Endspeed is not so important, better is the trolling speed.

english doesnt have to be perfect or much writen for guys who are not comfortable with this. Iknow that over averaged many swedish-people have good english:-)
The Crescent is swedish boat, so Im almost sure that there is somebody also with such or similar boat/motor combination.

The boat I spoke abouat was much bigger with a cabin, but I dont know at all name or so...

            wish u nice weekend

I use this, on my last boat 40 hp 230 kg was the slowest about 2,0 knots and with this about 0,8 kn. I have just the same and they are really good and builded with very good material.

I heard using couple of driftsocks on each side work fine for slowing boat down and also boat control...
Also there excist for slowing down "trolling-plates" which you put on motor.
They block the water-blowing from motor-propeller, so it will slow down...does anybody use them?
what is better, drift socks or trolling-plates...?

I have a Crescent 465 with a 30hp 2-stroke engine with 2 driftsocks and that works perfect for me, I can take the speed down to around 1 knot. Trollingplates are not so common I think, I would go with driftsocks!
